Migrant Clinicians Network

Project Overview

About the Client

The Migrant Clinicians Network is the nation’s oldest and largest international network dedicated to the mobile underserved. It was founded as a network focused on the health of America's migrant farmworkers. MCN promotes and sustains its mission through training, education, research, and program development.

The Situation

As a part of its mission, MCN needs to reach a specific audience of nurse practitioners, doctors, and promoters on various health topics that effect the mobile poor populations.

The Solution

Through collaboration with MCN, LearningChange has developed over a dozen professional development courses accredited by the Texas nurses association for (CME) Continuing Medical Education Units and (CNE) Continuing Nursing Units. These performance–based solutions focus on relevant content, practice, transfer of knowledge and learner motivation. Course themes range from cultural competency, mobile poor populations, immunization, tuberculosis and the changing face of migration.

Specifically, MCN’s Heptalk Series, which focuses on Hepatitis and the mobile poor populations, has garnered tremendous praise. Using an affective and effective design style, The Heptalk Series courses use multimedia to simulate patient case studies. Participants analyze a patient file and use the course content to identify the patient’s health risk.

These courses also offered simulations where patients and doctors interact to simulate best and poor practices in cultural competency and medical translation.

The Result

By working with LearningChange, MCN has been able to grow globally by offering a diverse set of online professional development courses to more clinics than their traditional face-to-face training. These performance-based offerings have also allowed an increased number of health professionals to obtain their continuing education units in a subject area that is hardly talked about in the health industry.

Their Voice

“The Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN), a national not-for-profit, has been working with LearningChange for over five years to expand online resources and services to our clinical constituents globally. The innovation, expertise and creativity of LearningChange has brought MCN’s online presence to an entirely new level of quality and service. One of the most valuable aspects of working with Learning Change is the depth and breadth of their experience. Learning Change has worked with MCN to create a beautiful look, develop an online community, provide internet based clinical education, develop online media and streamline the administration of our website. LearningChange’s rates are very competitive and their product is always excellent. Most importantly they have always worked with us until we are completely happy with the final product.

Since we began working with LearningChange, the number of unique users per month on MCN’s website has gone from an average of 4,500/month to just over 100,000/month. Additionally since working with Learning Change we often hear comment like these from people like this nurse from Moses Lake, Washington, who said “I have MCN's website booked marked on my favorite websites” or this program coordinator from Santa Clara, California who said: “I came across MCN online and was very impressed with the wealth of information on the website.”

Website work is always evolving and I am so pleased to know that I have an innovative partner like LearningChange with whom to collaborate in this ever changing environment.”
